A garden design to modernize an existing garden for a property in a private road in Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire. The garden was first designed by us over 10 years ago and now we return to modernise the terrace areas of the garden.
More than 14 tonnes of prime landscaping materials were designed, managed and constructed in this garden design and large decking project.
A substantial family home needed a simple yet modern design to replace the existing terrace, planting, lighting and a stylish Umbris with matching balustrade.
Complementary textures, modern surfaces and structures that work with the formality of the property. The aluminium and steel components to the garden structure of the raised rectilinear forms were essential. They lifted the garden against the property, an element often missed when creating a terrace platform to the rear of a substantial property.
To aid the vertical components and to offer the planting something to climb against we added stainless steel cables. These were fixed into the primary structure of the Umbris and added an essential component in a contrasting material.
A raised block work planter amongst the Umbris whilst inside the decking terrace. Finished with K-Render and a natural granite stone used as coping. The planting was predominantly herbs as directed by the client…
The decking, Millboard enhanced grain, in a coppered oak. Furthermore, a simple, wood-like and functional, which included a step and Led lighting with bronze and black fittings.
The balustrade was a custom design, coated to match the colour of the Umbris. The stainless cables had custom manufactured turn buckles to fit perfectly with the steel frame design.
This project looks simple but the design works for all of the components were rather extensive, the Umbris, balustrade, decking structure, lighting and all of the structures took many hours with the different fabricators of this project. Over 140 office hours of design, discussion, meetings, samples…
